Between the years 2010 and 2012, during my last year at the architectural school, the economy of the Bajio metropolitan region in Mexico was experiencing an intense period of development.
The automotor industry from the US, Japan, and Europe was once again shaping the landscape by strategically placing assemble lines, jobs, and wester economical stability into the regional territory.
“How could we hack into this massive foreign reorganization of population and infrastructure?”
I set the challenge of designing an architectural program that could benefit from this condition, It should also be responsible for producing the contemporary citizen of the region.
The proposal is a huge box filled with cultural activities - for commerce, entertainment and leisure - which uses infrastructure to attract population density. It placed on top of a train station and between a parking lot, and 2 air-landing strips.
The design consist of a square plan that is multiplied upwards and articulates its floors with elevators and escalators. The main volume is pushed into the earth to connect it with the underground program. Then is tilted, divided and rotated to separate its internal programs.
